To someone who isn’t familiar with the Dane County courthouse, the large building can seem a little intimidating. But the courthouse isn’t difficult to navigate. Here are a few tips to help your day at the courthouse go smoothly.
# Parking
Parking is available in multiple parking garages located near the courthouse and they accept cash and credit cards as payment. There is some limited metered street parking available as well, but it’s usually a better idea to park your car in a garage so you don’t have to worry about plugging a meter.
Parking is available at a garage at 113 S. Henry St. Here’s a map to other Madison parking garages.
# Dane County Courthouse hours
The Dane County Courthouse is open from 7:45 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. and is closed on all county holidays.
# Courthouse entrance
The entrance of the courthouse can be found at 215 S. Hamilton Street. The entrance is accessible to wheelchair users. There’s also a drop-off space for the wheelchair ramp on Doty Street. Once inside, you’ll have to pass through a metal detector for a weapons screening so be sure to leave any pocket knives at home. Any small items you have will be passed through an x-ray machine.
# Inside the Courthouse
Inside the Dane County Courthouse you’ll find directories on the wall with courtroom and office locations.
